IN 2012, AN ESTIMATED 678,810 CHILDREN IN THE UNITED STATES WERE DETERMINED TO BE VICTIMS OF ABUSE OR NEGLECT.
12.8% of the victims were less than one year old;33.6% of the victims were less than 4 years old;51.1% of the victims were girls and 48.6% were boys;61.4% of the victims suffered from neglect; 14.4% suffered from physical abuse; 7.3% suffered from sexual abuse and 6.7% were psychologically mistreated;44% of the victims of child abuse were White; 21% were African-American and 22.8% were Hispanic;An estimated 1,593 children died due to child abuse or neglect; and77% of the children who died were less than 4 years old.
